Sake, saké (Japanese: 酒, Hepburn: sake; English: IPA: SAH-kee, SAK-ay), or saki, also referred to as Japanese rice wine, is an alcoholic beverage of Japanese origin made by fermenting rice that has been polished to remove the bran.
