Peraia, and Peraea or Peræa (from Ancient Greek: ἡ περαία, hē peraia, "land across") in Classical Antiquity referred to "a community's territory lying 'opposite', predominantly (but not exclusively) a mainland possession of an island state" according to Karl-Wilhelm Welwei.
