Papeete (Tahitian: Papeʻete, pronounced [pa.pe.ʔe.te] (pape = water ; ʻete = bag, basket); old name: Vaiʻete) is the capital city of French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of the French Republic located in the Pacific Ocean.
