There are five suburbs in Mellunkylä: Kontula (Gårdsbacka) Vesala (Ärvings) Mellunmäki (Mellungsbacka) Kivikko (Stensböle) Kurkimäki (Tranbacka) Mellunkylä had some suburban settlements already before World War II. In the 1960s, Kontula, the largest suburb in Finland, was built in record time.
