La Coquille (French pronunciation: [la kɔkij]; Occitan: La Coquilha) is a commune in the Dordogne department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine in southwestern France. La Coquille was on one of the five routes leading to Santiago de Compostela in Spain and it was in this parish that pilgrims were given a coquille Saint-Jacques, a scallop shell symbolic of the Way of St. James, the celebrated pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
